Britain's Oldest Woman Dead at 115!

Sant Kaur Bajwa, world's second oldest living woman and the oldest in Britain,  has died in West London aged 115 years and 199 days last Friday.
She was born in 1898 in Sialkote, Punjab, which is now in Pakistan.
She saw the world before inventions such as the aircraft or radio transmission or the discovery of Penicillin!
During her life spanning three centuries, she witnessed history in the form of two World Wars, the industrial and technical revolutions, outlived six British monarchs and 27 prime ministers!
She was married off at the age of 16 to farmer Munsha Singh in 1914 and gave birth to four children. However, she became a widow just six years after her marriage.
After India's Independence in 1947, she managed to reach Indian Punjab. She learnt to stitch and sell clothes and with financial support from a brother, managed to educate her children.
In 1966, she migrated to Southall in London to live with daughter and her son-in-law.
Barely six years later, her daughter was diagnosed with kidney failure and died in 1972. At the age of 74, Bajwa now had to raise her four grandchildren.
After overcoming so many personal tragedies and challenges, years later, when she turned a healthy hundred in 1998, she was a little amused to see the world worried about issues like a new millennium and the Y2K threats!
Jim and Bob, her grandchildren fondly remember her.
"Through her life, it was her resolute belief in Sikhism and God that encourage her will to live, she was a religious activist visiting a Gurdwara daily and chanting 'Waheguru' for her own tranquility," said Jim in a statement.
Bajwa who died of natural age-related factors, leaves behind her 12 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren who treated her funeral as "a celebration and reflection of her incredible life.
Here is a 'Dil Se' tribute for this formidable woman! May she rest in peace!

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag Running on the Box Office!

India's fastest runner, the legendary Milkha Singh, is said to be running very fast again, this time at the box office. The Bollywood movie on his life "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" has created a global stir.
Milkha Singh told the media that his phone has not stopped ringing ever since the film released. The most surprising call that he got was from former American sprinter Carl Lewis who saw the movie!
Milkha Singh said, "The entire credit for the film's success must go to director Rakeysh Mehra, writer Prasoon Joshi, editor P.S. Bharathi and to Farhan Akhtar for portraying me with such conviction, and to Divya Dutta for bringing my sister's role alive. If it wasn't for the entire team and their belief in the project, my story would not have been told so persuasively. So many athletes have come and gone unsung. I think I am very fortunate."
Milkha Singh is also happy with the fact that "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" has given an inspirational message to the youth to follow their dreams.
Milkha Singh has taken just a token fee of Re.1 for the movie. However, it was decided that if the film makes profits, some of it would go into the Milkha Singh Charity Trust.
The charity trust distributes medicines to the poor, encourages promising athletes and helps retired sportsmen.

Milkha says, ''In our country, sportspersons are given no financial support. I have seen so much poverty and hardship. Believe me, the film shows only 20 percent of my suffering. They couldn't show all my pain.''
Milkha Singh now has only one unfulfilled wish. "The gold medal that slipped out of my hand in the Rome Olympics must come to us. Before I leave this world I want one Indian youngster to go get that medal for our country. That's my last wish."

Champions bring the Tri-Series Trophy Home!

Team India is now back home after lifting ICC Champions Trophy and Caribbean ODI Tri-Series.

Captain M.S Dhoni is reported to be holidaying in London.

The Tri-Series was very exciting as Team India defeated Sri Lanka in the finals to win the series. The highlight of the match was M.S Dhoni's 16 runs in the last over.

Dhoni, who had not played some previous matches because of an injury, jointly accepted the trophy with Viral Kohli, who had led the team in Dhoni's absence.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was named player of the series while Rohit Sharma was awarded the Most Trusted Player of the Series.

The final of the series was very thrilling as Dhoni ushered Team India to victory. Fans were jubilant and expressed their happiness all over social media channels.

Someone commented, 'When Dhoni has to make 15 runs in the last over, it is the bowler, who is under pressure!'

Motivated by its recent success, team India now seems to be in great shape and is expected to continue its winning saga!

Celebrating Friends

Zee Dil Se team recently had a chance to meet the Kai Po Che stars!

The movie based on Chetan Bhagat's novel, 'Three mistakes of My Life' was released earlier this year. The title 'Kai Po Che' is a Gujarati phrase, which means 'I have cut the kite'. The phrase is shouted during kite competitions where one cuts the competitor's kite to win!

This sensitively done movie revolves around three friends, who want to start their own sports academy to nurture budding sports talent in India.

The movie portrays their growing up, deep friendship and ambitions amidst the growing communal hatred in Gujarat. One of the friends becomes a victim of this hatred and eventually dies.

The movie received mixed reviews and acclaim in India and abroad.

We also had a chance to record Zee Dil Se promos by the lead stars of the movie, Sushant Singh Rajput  and Raj Kumar Yadav!

Did the movie also remind you of some friends you grew up with? Record a video message for your friends on www.zeedilse.com and see it on Zee Tv in the US!
