Celebrating Unity in Diversity 'Dil Se'!

This year in a happy coincidence, Eid and Teej were both celebrated on the same day in India.

While Eid is celebrated by Muslims all over the world, to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan, Teej is a Hindu festival which is celebrated in India, in the states of Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan. Teej is celebrated to commemorate Goddess Parvati's union with Lord Shiva. Like Ramadan, Teej also involves rigid fasting. This fasting is said to bring marital bliss, well-being of spouse and children and self-purification.

Both Eid and Teej conclude by lavish feasting and celebrating with the family.

Eid and Teej being celebrated together is an amazing example of unity in diversity, which characterizes India.

This reminds me of what a sociologist once remarked. He said, India has not lost even an inch of its territory to secession in spite of its religious, cultural and linguistic diversity. However, Europe is split into small nations in spite of their religious and linguistic unity!

To double our happiness and pride of unity in diversity, the Indian independence day is now approaching!

What better way than to express such feelings Dil Se. Record a video message to wish your loved ones on www.zeedilse.com and see it live on Zee TV here in the USA, another country which prides itself on  following the principles of unity and inclusion!

Follow your dreams 'Dil Se'!

As the saying goes, 'Every accomplishment begins with a dream. And for those who dream, there is nothing as impossible'.
I recently read about Artist SinGh, who is a controversial artist based in Michigan and is now all set to break the Guinness world record for the longest painting by an individual.
Called ‘The World’s Best Stunt Painter’, SinGh rose to fame with his unique ability to paint while performing stunts such as levitating, jumping from heights, hanging himself from trees, etc. His shows are high on entertainment quotient, while producing some finest art pieces. He had earlier became controversial for his painting on rape of Oprah Winfrey and for the effigy of Saddam Hussein.
Currently SinGh is all set to participate in ArtPrize 2013 and break the Guinness World record for the world’s longest painting by an individual. The painting will be displayed for $560000 competition. He aims to achieve this rare feat in a very short duration of less than two months. SinGh paints for more than 17 hours every day to complete this work on time, to be displayed in the Grand Rapid exhibition on 18 September. His hands are now bruised because of long hours of painting, but he continues to be inspired by his passion for art.
Do you also know someone who is working hard to achieve his dreams? Cheer up your loved ones by recording a video message for them on www.zeedilse.com. Tell them how much they mean to you! Wish them all the very best 'Dil Se' and see your message on Zee TV in the US in front of millions of viewers!

Celebrate Rakhi Dil Se on 21st August, 2013!

Rakhi or Raksha Bandhan (the bond of protection) is celebrated every year in India to mark the relationship between a brother and sister. This year Rakhi is on 21st August.

On this day in India, sisters tie a sacred, colorful, thread or Rakhi on the wrist of their brothers and the brothers vow to always protect their sisters. Sisters pray for the well-being and good health of their brothers. Brothers also gift their sisters on Rakhi. Both feed each other with traditional sweets.

Though there are many instances of Rakhi being mentioned in the history, one popular story is of Rani Karnavati and Humayun. When Rani Karnavati, the widowed queen of Chittor, realized that she will not be able to defend her kingdom from the attack of King of Gujarat, Bahadur Shah, she sent a Rakhi to Emperor Humayun.

Humayun was so touched by this gesture that he immediately went with his troops to defend Rani's kingdom. However, he reached too late. By then Rani Karnavati had already committed Jauhar (suicide) to defend her honor. Humayun fought with Bahadur Shah's troops and restored the kingdom to Rani Karnavati's son.

Rakhi has also been shown in Bollywood from time to time. From the protective, brothers of the 1970s, who fought poverty and hardship to protect their sisters and marry them happily to the contemporary fun relationship between cool brothers and sisters. The recent movie  Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, showed a unique bond between the two where they fight, trouble each other but also understand and  love each other a lot.

We are celebrating this Rakhi Dil Se! Go down the memory lane to recall your childhood spent with your siblings. Make your bro/sis a star! Record a video message on www.zeedilse.com, sing a song for them on cam, schedule a time slot for your message to appear on Zee TV in the USA!

Happy Rakhi # Dil Se!
