Miss New York, Nina Davuluri has become the first contestant of Indian origin to win the Miss America pageant. She was born in New York to Indian immigrants parents from Andhra Pradesh.
Her win had barely been announced when angry tweets calling her 'Arab', 'terrorist', 'foreigner' 'Miss Al Qaida' etc were posted. Some Americans expressed embarrassment at display of such racism.
Indians also took to twitter to say 'Americans can be the racist they are but should at least get their geography right'!
Addressing a Press Conference later, the newly crowned Miss America said, she considered herself foremost an American.
Indians all across the globe are ecstatic on this victory. While both top two finalists were Asian Americans, Nina remarked that they were making history as Asian Americans!
